Waste Disposal Units

Waste Disposal Unit Installation and Repair in Brisbane

A good disposal unit makes the kitchen bin a much less unpleasant place. We install, repair and replace waste disposal units across Brisbane, InSinkErator included. While we are under the sink, we check the waste line behind it. That extra look is the plus.

Waste Disposal Units

What Our Waste Disposal Unit Service Covers

Most plumbers treat disposal units as an afterthought, which is why so many are installed badly and blocked within a year. We treat the unit and the waste line it feeds as one job.

  • New waste disposal unit supply and installation, sized to your sink and cupboard
  • InSinkErator repair, servicing and like-for-like replacement
  • Jam clearing and overload resets when the unit stops mid-cycle
  • Sink waste and trap reconfiguration so the unit drains the way it should
  • Waste line inspection to check the pipe can handle the extra load
  • Dishwasher connection into the unit where the layout allows it

If your kitchen waste run is already marginal we will say so before you buy a unit. Better an honest conversation now than a blocked kitchen in February.

How We Work

A Unit That Works For Years, Not Months

Disposal units fail early far more often from a poor install than a poor product. Here is how we keep yours out of that group.

Waste Line Checked First

We inspect the existing kitchen waste before fitting. Adding a unit to a tired line just moves the problem along.

Fitted To Your Sink

Stainless, composite and undermount sinks all mount differently. We bring the right adaptor rather than improvising.

Repair Where It Makes Sense

Plenty of dead units are only jammed or tripped. We check that first before anyone spends money on a new one.

Kitchen Left Spotless

Cupboard emptied, cupboard refilled, floor wiped down. You should not be able to tell we were under the sink.

FAQs

Waste Disposal Unit Questions

Disposal units are the service homeowners ask the most practical questions about. These five come up on nearly every job.

In most Brisbane kitchens, yes. The sink waste opening needs to suit the unit, and there needs to be a power point in the cupboard below. Standard stainless sinks usually take a unit directly, while some undermount and composite sinks need a specific adaptor. We check the cupboard space, the waste run and the power situation before quoting rather than after.

Three causes cover most of them. A tripped overload reset button on the base, a jam from a bone or a stray teaspoon, or a motor that has reached the end after years of service. The first two are often a two-minute fix, and we will happily talk you through it on the phone at no charge. If the motor has gone, replacement usually beats repair on cost.

Fat and cooking oil top the list. They set hard further down the line and create the exact blockage the unit was meant to prevent. Also avoid fibrous scraps like celery and corn husks, large volumes of coffee grounds, bones, and anything that is not food. Run cold water while it works and for a few seconds afterwards to keep everything moving.

The waste connection under the sink is plumbing work and needs a licensed plumber in Queensland. The electrical side only needs a licensed electrician if a new outlet or circuit is required. Plugging into an existing under-sink outlet is straightforward. We handle the plumbing and tell you honestly if a sparkie needs to join the party.

A properly used unit rarely causes blockages, but a badly used one certainly can. The risk sits in fat and starchy waste rebuilding in the pipe beyond the unit. Older kitchens with a long waste run out to the gully are the usual case. We check the condition of your existing waste line before installing, so you are not loading up a pipe that is already struggling.
