Yes. In Queensland, all gas installation, alteration and appliance connection work must be carried out by a licensed gasfitter. That work also has to be certified. There is no legal DIY option for connecting a cooktop or a heater, no matter how simple the manual makes it look. We hold the licence, we do the work, and we issue the certificate.
It confirms the installation meets Queensland gas standards and the AS/NZS 5601 installation code. You need one whenever a new appliance is connected or gas lines are altered. It is often requested when you sell or insure the property. We lodge it and hand you a copy on the day rather than posting it out later.
The odourant added to gas smells like rotten eggs, and that is the clearest warning. Other signs include a hiss near a fitting and dead patches of grass over a buried line. A gas bill that climbs with no change in how you cook is worth a look too. If you smell gas, turn the supply off at the meter and open the windows.
